Wednesday – Grand Canyon - MSFS2024 Tourism

 Let’s see how the Grand Canyon looks in MSFS 2024.  We will start from Temple Bar (U30), located near the point when the Colorado river leaves the Grand Canyon and forms Lake Mead.   Our first stop is Grand Canyon West (1G4) 25 miles to the east.  On departure we then overfly the Grand Canyon Skywalk, then reverse course to overfly the Haulapai Indian Reservation to waypoint DUGGN, then cross the canyon paralleling the Colorado river for 30 miles before reaching Grand Canyon Bar 10 Airstrip (1Z1).  We continue to follow the Colorado River 30 miles to WPT1 then turning to the southeast over the canyon to Grand Canyon National Park Airport (KGCN).   The route follows the Bright Angel Trail 15nm across the Grand Canyon to the nicely depicted classic North Rim Lodge situated on the edge of the canyon rim.   Turning back southeast we cross the canyon again enroute to the Desert View Watchtower.   Proceeding north, the route passes the junction of the Little Colorado River and the main branch of the Colorado.  The canyon narrows and becomes less deep as we near Marble Canyon (L41).  This is a good spot to shutdown your aircraft and have a walk around the scenery with your avitar as Vince has included a lot of details in his rendition of this field.  Departing Marble Canyon we may want to conduct a bridge inspection of the two spans of the Navajo Bridge before the final 10 mile leg to the Glen Canyon Dam with a finish at Page Muni (KPGA).  If time permits we may continue on to Navajo Mountain (04UT).

Aircraft:  The route is 239nm with 6 landings and a bit of walking around, so a cruise speed of ~150knts would be about right.  I plan to fly the Cessna 208 Caravan – Scientific Research variant in the Terraventia Research livery.
