February 19, 20215 yr Hi, I just ordered a MCP combo II to use along with the fslabs a320 and I have been doing some reading to be prepared for setting everything up. I understand that the best way to use it is with FSUIPC and the linda plugin found here, however speed, alt, hdg selections dont display properly because FSlabs wont provide any ability to grab that info. I ask this question without having any experience whatsoever with lua or any understanding of how the airbus speed/alt/hdg selector works (my intention with purchasing the MCP is to learn 🙂 is it possible to "initialize" a value for the readout at the beginning and capture the rotary increments from there on out to display what the airbus should be displaying? For example: start sim manually set speed, alt, and hdg to 0 press button to "initialize" linda keeps track of rotary commands to display proper values from there on out. I have some experience programming other languages and would be willing to put the time into this if someone who is familiar with the language says its possible. February 19, 20215 yr @aaronbaird1 welcome to the LINDA community and thank you for your suggestion. I spent many, many hours investigating the idea of initialising the display and trying to keep them in sync with the cockpit FCU display. It proved unreliable and impossible to do. One issue is that the Airbus does not continuously display data. When in managed mode, used throughout most flights, the displays are dashed and don't always display predictable values when switch to manual mode. Personally, I fly the Aerosoft Airbus A3XX Pro series which conform the normal interface standards. Im using the sim to assist my real world training so i dont know if the aerosoft will cut it. Especially not if im trying to do everything from the FO side for continuity. I haven't tried it though, what do you think? I should have everything set up in the next couple weeks to play around with. In the unlikely event I can find some discernable pattern when going between dashed and manual I'll post it. Would you be willing to share the code from your previous attempt for me to play with in that case?
February 19, 20215 yr Author my other, more outlandish, idea is to use some sort of image recognition / ocr software on the 2d panel and pass the info to linda. I know... thats way too much work for such a little problem. It just really bugs me that the devs intentionally did this. perhaps if i ever have some free time ill look into it. February 20, 20215 yr A cheaper option would be to add an extra display with a 2D view of the cockpit or just the FCU displays. I use my iPad with applications like Duet. I am not a commercial pilot or trainee so the Aerosoft makes little difference for me. The FSLabs is reportedly the better fidelity model but I have noticed little difference in the system operation between them.
