Traffic Pattern Checklist

Greetings,

I thought I would recommend a pattern checklist for FS2CREW. The main purpose of this checklist is to facilitate RADAR and Traffic pattern work. The above checklist is from one of the jets I currently fly. The checklist only includes items that are necessary for multiple approaches and pattern work. This keeps you from having to pick through after takeoff, descent, approach and landing checklists when you are only going to perform approaches and pattern work. I have flown aircraft without traffic pattern checklist and its a bit distracting flipping through pages while you already have you hands full especially in the pattern as an IP. While I was in the AirForce, we started paying to have these checklist added. Looking at the checklist above, the normal flow is to perform normal checklist up to the line up/runway entry procedure. After takeoff, you call for the traffic pattern checklist. The takeoff section is ran and then you roll into the pattern section. As you call for the gear, you call for the landing section(gear down, before landing check). Once on the ground, tell the PF to stand them up,reset flaps, check trim in the green and tell the PF to push them up. Call TOGA and rotate at VREF. Once in the air, the PF calls for the traffic pattern check, rinse and repeat. I don't know how difficult this would be to code. Especially since the first section flows automatically into the pattern section once the PF has been prompted and has completed the brief. Most guys will state, standing by for the takeoff brief to cue up the brief and pattern section.

We also have a rule allowing this checklist to be used on short legs. As you can imagine, in the biz jet world, it's common to have some short trips. Our guideline is that the pattern check can be used if your altitude will stay at 17,000 or less. Basically transition is the deciding factor. I honestly don't know how many people would use it, but it's a big help in the real world when doing pattern work in the jet or sim.
