Anyone know any locations at those two frozen areas where a c130 flies to, i am trying to start flying those flights. Any one could suggest the departture place and destination in arctic and antarctica ?thanks.Andre-=AM=-

Don't know about the Artic but just flew a VA group flight into SAWB (Base Marambio) in Antartica. The base was built by the Argentine Air Force and is still used today.In FS9 it's like landing on a stationary aircraft carrier. Have fun.

Well, found this for Antarctica: Williams Field airstrip and building complex is located on the permanent ice, about 10 miles from Mactown (McMurdo). It is the first sight that many see of this place. Given the bleak nature of the ice shelf, some do not find it to be a comforting sight. It is named for SeeBee Richard T. Williams who drowned when his tractor fell through the sea ice, in 1953.C-130s with skis landed there. For the wheeled birds there's the Ice Runway about 5 minutes away from McMurdo. It's only operation from October to December. Then there's Pegasus, the least used of the three runways near McMurdo and Scott Base. is NZIR actually in FS9?It would be nice to have some scenery with a few buildings, plus the iced runways and snow runways, if thats possible

Alphasim has some scenery for Antartica. 4 bases with planes,hangers,weather equip,submarine,C-130s ect.At $9 its worth a try.

FS 2004 has the following airports in AntarcticaSAWB - Base Marambio - 4,134 ft - GravelSCRM - Teniente R Marsh Martin - 4,227 ft - GravelNZWD - McMurdo Station - 10,000 ft & 8,000 ft - Snow for bothNZIR - McMurdo Station Ice Runway - 3 x 10,000 ft runways - 15/33 & 7/25 are Ice surface - 6/24 is snow surfaceNZPG - McMurdo Station Pegasus Field - 10,000 ft - IceNZ0B - Palmer Station - 2,500 ft - SnowNZ0A - Petrel - 3,500 ft - SnowThe McMurdo Station strips are located at 77 degrees 50 minutes south - the other airports are around 62 - 64 degrees south latitude.SAWB has a nearby VOR and NDB, and with an elevation of 760 feet it probably rests on a plateau atop a tall cliff - hence the carrier reference.SCRM also has a VOR and NDB and NZ0A has a nearby NDB.The others have no navaids.All are certainly within the capabilities of a C-130.Yes the US Navy has flown to Antarctica with C-130's for many, many years - basically direct out of Christchurch.The Chilean and Argentinian airports are obviously direct flights from the tip area of South America.Edit - neat photos.The airports are rather bleak - the Alphasim scenery appears to be similary to a freeware FS2002 scenery - but even the real "airports" are very minimal.

AM:Start up FS select it as a starting field, then do a circuit and you'll understand what I mean. As for if it's properly modeled, I don't have a clue, never been there and don't want to go. :7

Boy are these airports a mess in FS.SCRM, SAWB, NZIR & NZWD extend into the water polygons.Rwy 6/24 - a closed runway at NZIR - is Rwy 7/25 at NZWD - but with a 40 foot elevation difference.SCRM, SAWB, NZ0A & NZ0B are all close to each other on the tip of Antarctica which extends up toward South America.Of the three McMurdo airports - NZIR and NZWD overlap and NZPG is in the middle of McMurdo Sound - which may be accurate - but doesn't work in FS.Of course in the local winter (and maybe summer) the sound may well be frozen - but FS cannot convert soft water into hard ice.And in winter it's dark 24 hours a day - with only a PAPI as the only light in the region.SAWB probably does sit on top of the cliffs - an intersting landing attempt.

Took me 3 tries at SAWB and even then it wasn't pretty. :+

Departure is usually from Trenton, ON, code CYTR. Alert is considered the world's most northerly, permanently settled community.As an aside, a couple of years ago, I made a scenery add-on for the station and a search in the Scenery Library should reveal a link to the files.Further info: the closer to the north and south poles one goes in FS, the more the ground appears to 'swim'. This is due to the convergence of the mesh/ terrain longitude data and to my knowledge, not correctable and just something we have to live with.

Kinda sad thouhg, last night flight i must say ended in tradegy as i landed below water level on runway and when i taxied around, i must of sunk into water. anyone know any good scenery out there for antarctica ???
