How to add a runway to scenery?

Featured Replies

Is there a (simple) way to add a runway, taxiway, Navaid and ILS, to an airport?Something easy, like AFCAD or so?Regards, Marcelo

In FS9 you can create visible objects with AFCAD2 bgl files, unlike FS8. These include surfaces for taxiways, runways, and aprons. Apron taxiways are transparent using the underlying surface.AFCAD 2.21 is the current version, for FS9 only, with the latest features.

Donny AKA ShalomarFly 2 ROCKS!!!There's another thread current that discusses AFCAD advantages, but it is starting to grow. One thing I have heard is you can't get rid of default elements. Overall that's a great thing for a guy like me, I might do an oops and turn the whole shebang into Waterworld or something. But suppose a runway has a default VASI, and for whatever reason you want a PAPI there. You probably would not want to see the VASI when you fly in to that runway after the upgrade.Best Regards, Donny:-wave

Basically, if AFCAD 2.21 shows a feature of an aerodrome, you can change it. This includes runways and their markings, lighting and approach lighting, as well as navaids, taxiways, aprons, parking, and holds. What AFCAD can't change are default buildings because they are created separately, so you need to exclude them if you want to get rid of them. Also AFCAD can't change approaches for the same reason and if you change runway designations then existing approaches are unlikely to work. It's pretty foolproof. If you modify an existing aerodrome it creates a new .bgl file prefixed by AF2_ followed by the aerodrome ID code and puts it in C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9Addon Sceneryscenery but doesn't affect the MS default file.Just try it!
