MD11 Control surface issue

Featured Replies

Greetings all,

I've recently started re-learning the MD11, in time for CTP. I seem to have issues with the "pitch" control, using the keypad (numbers 2 and 8). It simply doesnt do anything. The other numbers (4 and 6 for ailerons, 1 and 7 for stab) work fine, and all of the nmbrs, including 2 and 8 work fine with the 737NGX. Any solutions?

On a related note, in your opinion which is a better yoke, the CH or Saitek? One of these days I'll spend the money, but until then I'm forced to using the keyboard.

Many thanks.

hmmm, all I know is that the MD11 needs a lot of input to make a change in pitch. Have you checked your LSAS sensitivity?

On the joystick part, I have a CH fighterstick and it works perfectly. Had a combat stick as well (that a roommate broke) but it held up for 2 years with no problem at all and upheld precision. Saitek may look fancier but I think that the best product is the CH simply because of the sturdiness. I have also bought the pro throttle and I use the little joystick on it as a rudder. It works perfectly.

LSAS shouldnt be an issue. It's set for "medium". Strange how the other surfaces move except for the elevator. But on the 737NGX, everything works.

I think because of the way LSAS is implemented, you need a stick to fly it. Is there an option to disable LSAS? Might be the only way (or downgrade the systems so it is disabled in the systems itself). Might prevent autopilot function though if you do this.

Look for the Thrustmaster T16000 stick - very cheap, and uses hall effect sensors on all axis. A great stick regardless of what else you have (I got the T16000 despite already having the Warthog HOTAS).

Best regards,

Robin.

I'm not sure the answer is LSAS. It's strange, because the pitch control keys (2 and 8) dont work with the default FSX aircraft either (eg: King Air). But it works with the NGX. Really weird.

Hi,

I have a saitek yoke. Works perfect, is simple to setup and it adds a lot more "real flying" in the game.

Believe me it is worth the money. No matter what kind of yoke you choose.

Mystery solved. Somehow, the keyboard sensitivity sliders for pitch control (on the NGX settings-controls page) was down to 0. I reset them for 100, and everything seems to be working fine now. Not sure why the 737NGX wasnt affected, but we'll save that one for another day.

Many thanks for all of your input.

Glad to hear it worked out. Sounds like a real mystery :O
