October 13, 201213 yr Commercial Member GRRRRRRRRRRR............ Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: FS9.EXE Application Version: 9.1.0.40901 Application Timestamp: 4135a208 Fault Module Name: PMDG_MD11.GAU Fault Module Version: 10.0.61355.62 Fault Module Timestamp: 49b7d862 Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 00126af1 OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.48 Locale ID: 1033 I pre-flighted an 11 hour flight between Manchester (EGCC) and Anchorage (PANC). The routing was: EGCC POL5R POL UP17 TIPTA UM82 RIVOT UM89 ALOTI M89 ROXET Z108 TUXOT Z101 GUBAV Z156 AMIMO P80 LATEN B483 PETAG B954 GIKSI G7 LURET R351 KUTAL B233 GAL PANC During climb out I had a fuel tank pump fail in #2 tank, but that is inmaterial as I had these types of crash under FSX without failures. During climb out, I changed the alternate airport in the INIT page from PAFA to EGCC. I added a STAR (ILS RW23R) to the alternate flight plan, cleared the DISCOs and removed PANC from the start of the alternate FP, and added a HOLD at ROSUN (173 inbound, R, 1 min). I then selected the FROM waypoint, and proceeded to activate the alternate. At first, it went OK - the active waypoint changed, and the aircraft proceeded to turn towards ROSUN. I started to dial down the altitude to FL070 when it CTD. I have had these crashes on switching alternate and STAR in FSX for years. Could PMDG PLEASE locate the fault and fix it?????? I'm willing to test to confirm it fixed. Seems the bug carried over to the FS9 version. :( I'm going to re-fly to get exact steps to replicate. Best regards, Robin.
October 13, 201213 yr It bugs as well. These are really really small issues. It isn't new features, just some fixes so that they don't cause CTD's. I find it bad that PMDG has given up the MD11. I mean, they don't even look in this forum anymore... Manfred G. Ships are cooler that you think.
October 14, 201213 yr Author Commercial Member It's a shame, because the MD-11 is by far their best product, even including the NGX, forgetting any bias I have towards the MD-11 itself. ^_^ (...and for the record, I have the NGX, too). Heck - I purchased the MD-11 twice now (for FSX at release, and for FS9 over the weekend). Just fixing these little issues would go a long way. I tried re-creating the crash, but it seemed to handle it fine the second and third time I tried it. When I had the CTD I had completed a flight between Heathrow and Manchester before the "accident" flight, which I had not done on the two flights that were OK. I know that it is common for me to get a CTD on downwind at Heathrow after flying the missed and selecting an arrival back to heathrow in FSX - I shall have to see if I get this same crash in FS9, too (it happens when I'm abeam the waypoint and it tries to sequence the next waypoint in thge flight plan). I suggest it is maybe due to a bad index in the flight plan list, and it is attempting to access an invalid location. I know those kinds of bugs are a PITA to find. Best regards, Robin.
October 15, 201213 yr Are you using SP2, I know that some of these issues were addressed there. Branton Turner
October 16, 201213 yr Author Commercial Member I purchased the MD-11 for FS9 over the weekend, so it should be the latest? I removed a RealityXP module from FS9 (Wx500) as it would crash when closing FS. So far the sim has been running 29 hours, done 4 consecutive flights, including one trans-atlantic currently in progress (after being paused for 12 hours overnight 800 nm from destination) and it is still running. I'm just completing the flight now, and will be conducting a series of missed approaches at St. John's (CYYT) in about 2 hours from now. So far, extremely happy!!!!!!!!!    Best regards, Robin.
October 16, 201213 yr Author Commercial Member I'm just pre-flighting the 6th consecutive flight, 30+ hours up-time. MD-11 for FS9 rocks. B) Best regards, Robin.
October 17, 201213 yr Author Commercial Member 8 flights later and it is still running. Just awesome! A shame to have to shutdown. Best regards, Robin.
October 19, 201213 yr Author Commercial Member GOT IT!!!!!! If the FMS does not transition to CRUISE phase, when it tries to transition from CLB to DES phase it will CTD. Work-around: level the aircraft, UPDATE THE FMS CRUISE ALT, then press PERF, and ensure it goes to CRUISE page! Once this is done, you are free to do what you want. Separately, I found that unless the flight plan is active and CRUISE phase was reached, if you try and delete the airport during a divert (you end up with T-P, AIRPORT, NEXT WPT), or attempt to delete the original destination from ALTN FPLN after adding an alternate approach, it will also crash. Another note: deleting the FROM waypoint at any time results in a CTD. Hopefully PMDG see this and will issue a small patch at some time. In the meantime, I know how to avoid this crash, and I hope it helps others. Best regards, Robin.

November 12, 201213 yr Author Commercial Member There is another condition that must exist to PREVENT this CTD: Autopilot MUST be engaged for the FMS to transition from CLB to CRZ phase. Why this is I have no idea, but makes little sense. Flying accurately using only the FD is INSUFFICIENT, even though managed modes are in use and all other conditions are satisfied. Best regards, Robin.
November 18, 201213 yr Author Commercial Member Well this gets stranger... the FMS does transition without the use of flight director or autopilot, so not sure what was preventing it before (I tried flying around Anchorage the other night and it transitioned OK in manual flight, which is what I'd expect). Best regards, Robin.
