Caribbean Scenery

Featured Replies

Hi, everyone. I'm trying to build up some Caribbean scenery in preparation for a return to "active duty" with my VA, Tradewind Caribbean. I was wondering if anyone could recommend some good sceneries that are pretty good on frames and decent to look at. I've been considering Chris Wilkes' IWI packages, but I'm also interested in available freeware, too. I have FS9, but anything made for FS8 that works in the current version is fine, too.One area in particular that I've had some trouble with in my own searches is Les Saintes airport in Guadaloupe. I've tried some scenery that has shifted the airport over without telling FS, thus leaving me in the water when I Go-To that airport. I've tried others that squared off all my coastlines, and embedding the runway in a mountain. I'm sure there's something I'm not doing right, so any insight on what those problems could be would be appreciated as well. Thanks! Jon D.south of KSEA

Okay, found a fix for part of my problem. The squared off coastlines was an inherant problem with the Antilles 2004 package. Found this one out by searching the forum. Shoulda read the docs. DOH!But I still find myself in water when I start up at Les Saintes, and a few other airports in the sceneries. A quick check at FSNAV shows the airports are offset. Anyone know a fix for this? I haven't found anything in the scenery docs about it, other than a mention of a quirk with the GPS displays. Thanks!

Christian Delblond has excellent FS2004 versions for Le Raizet and Barbados and anything by Bill Melichar is good too. As for your problem, do you have Toni Agramonts Caribbean scenery loaded? Therecould be a problem of conflict there

If you don't mind payware, I've found that the recent editions of Fly to Caribe (especially numbers 3, 4, 5 and 6) are really good and frame rate friendly and don't alter the entire Caribbean. There's a great Antigua airport, Barbados, Havana, Port-Au-Prince and a few others. Also Lago's Punta Cana is great, complete with swaying palm trees.Lee

Nope, don't mind payware at all, if it's worth it. Thanks! :)Re Toni A.'s scenery: Yeah, I deleted all the Caribbean scenery I downloaded and reinstalled one at a time. I found the conflict which featured some buildings in the water, and an airstrip or two. Now, all I have is the Antilles 2004 scenery installed, but I still end up in the water when I pick Les Saintes airport. Going by the "Search Addon Scenery" in the "Go To Airport" menu selection, I can pick L.S. there and it'll be correct. I'm thinking the designers may have forgotten an exclude file or two.I'm still open to the chance that I may be overlooking, or have screwed something up myself, though. As for framerates in the Christian Delblond sceneries, I always attributed that to the high detail of the scenery, and my low-end PC specs. His stuff is incorporated into Antilles 2004. Thanks for resurrecting the thread, guys! I figured it'd go on overlooked. :)

Jon, I made some sceneries for FS8 just for Tradewind Caribbean Airlines. They work just fine in FS9. Search under "Abernathy" in FS8 sceneries. They are located in the Bahamas and add seaplane stops to various islands. Also, I did one for Paradise Island near Nassau too.Best, RobTDM 9111

Hi Rob!I've got all your sceneries installed, as a matter of fact. Thanks! Even though I've been inactive with TCA for the longest (Life, and all), I've decided that I'm going to MAKE time to get involved. I've always been a member of the mailing list, so I've been keeping up to date with the goings on. I've been flying a few of the Seabirds routes lately as warm-ups and a re-acquaintence with the area. Your sceneries have been integral to that. Thanks!
