October 23, 201114 yr Hi, I want to know whether I should buy Ultimate Terrain Europe or Ground Environment X Europe? I just want a scenery package for al of Europe, so which one is better? What is the FPS like on each package? Which one should I buy? Aaron G. PMDG Boeing 737NGX Captain
October 23, 201114 yr TBH i would go for both, they both make a difference and i have experienced no loss of fps, infact some people noticed a gain! Chris Howard
October 23, 201114 yr They are packages that do different things. Ultimate terrain adapts roads and rivers, and Ground Environment changes the default ground textures. You should take whatever is more important to you, although I'd recommend getting both. October 23, 201114 yr As others said, get both to get the best results: UTX = landclassGEX = textures If you are on limited budget and fly mostly daytime, I'd probably get GEX first. It's perhaps easier to notice the difference with better textures than it is with landclass, although default landclass is pretty poor. If you fly a lot in night time, then UTX is best choice for first upgrade. Its urban night lighting is really good.
October 23, 201114 yr Author Thanks for all the advice. I will get GEX first and then get UTX later on. Aaron G. PMDG Boeing 737NGX Captain
October 24, 201114 yr It is my understanding that UTX only affects some urban landclass and is not in general a landclass product. The important contribution is it's accurate coastlines, water features and roads. The 3D night lighting is questionable due to it's impact on framerates. I do not use either product for Europe, but in the US, I found the GEX textures to really impact the autogen displayed. In suburban landclasses, FSX displays all houses in these areas and GEX displays a mix of houses and highrises. While this creates a little more drama to the scenery, the highrises often occur around airports and block approaches to runways. At many of the airports I fly into, I have had to create exclusions of these buildings. Of course if it isn't buildings, it's the oversize trees. Art
