December 25, 200322 yr Hi Simmers,In 2002 I modified the English.fll with a hex-editor to remove unwanted" screen mesages like "PARKING BRAKES" etc.I should like to do that for FS2004 again, but in 2004 ther is NO English.fll.Which file now contains the "screenwords" ?Thanks in advance,Hessel Oosten Netherlands.
December 25, 200322 yr Hi Hessel,The FS9 file you want is language.dll in the main FS9 folder.I use ResHacker to edit the text, it isn't necessary to use a hex editor.Merry Christmas!
December 25, 200322 yr Great question and great answer. ResHack did the trick in helping me change "Brakes" to "B", "Parking Brakes etc" to "PB", and "Differential Brakes" to "DB". I like to know that my equipment (rudder pedals and keyboard) are functioning correctly with the "not as offensive" reduced popup tags. Thanks for the tip!ResHackhttp://www.users.on.net/johnson/resourcehacker/What I did1. Saved the original copy of FS9's language.dll to a safe place2. Opened copy of language.dll with ResHack (File/Open/ then select file3. Open Folder 'String Table' by clicking on + sign4. Scroll to Folder '2337', open folder(click on + sign) and click on 10335. Change string 37377, from "Brakes" to "B"6. Change string 37378, from "Parking Brakes...press . to disengage" to "PB"7. Close folder8. Scroll to Folder 2344, open as above9. change stringtable line 37494, from "Differential Brakes" to "DB"10. Close folder11. File /Save12. Close and recompile if asked.
December 26, 200322 yr You can use ResHacker to change any of the on screen text in FS9. Use the "Find Text" option found on the View menu (or press Control+F) to search for text strings you want to change.Last month at the Flightsim FS2004 forum, someone wanted to remove the "Main Exit Opening" and "Main Exit Closing" messages. See the replies from #8 down in this topic:http://www.flightsimnetwork.com/cgi/dcforu...rum=DCForumID21for more information on how to use ResHacker for this purpose.
