MD-11 V.S. 747-400

Featured Replies

Hello every one could you please give me your opinion on how much diferent is to flight the md-11 from the 747 I'm really hoping I can buy the MD but the price is kind of high betwen $70 & $80 usdl. I only payed $30 for the 747 is the MD that much better to make it worth as much. Thank you all. Saul

The MD-11 is totally in another league! IMHO, it is worth every cent.PMDG homepage has a downloadable link to the operating manual, so you can decide for yourself if it's worth it.

ssf: Full names in this forum please. The MD-11 / B747-400 comparison is a little unfair to the Queen. The MD-11 came through the development cycle years later with many extraordinary improvements. Graphics alone (in FSX) put these two in different categories.

Over 10 years here and AVSIM is still my favourite FS site :-)

Exactly. In addition to this I would say that the only thing both planes have in common is that they both fall under the category "Heavy". From then on everything else is different...I own both products and it's a fact that you can tell immediately that the 747 is an "older" sim (graphics, less fps effective, etc...)Is the MD-11 worth its price ? EVERY cent. In fact it is the 747 which is ridiculously cheap compared to the product you get.

Get the 747 and you wil be blown away with how good it is. When you can fly it well (aprox 250. hours) then get the MD-11 and you will be blown away all over again.

Paul Smith.

I keep coming back to the 747, and I can't say I use the MD-11 all that much. Even though I prefer the MD's VC, how it looks and "feel" of the plane and it's a heck of a lot better optimized in code. The 747 slows my computer down a lot more. But I love 747s, ever since I was a child, so I guess that's why I fly it so much more than the MD, despite it's shortcomings.

I'm going to agree somewhat with Alex here and suggest that its a matter of personal preference. I fly them both about equally and are completely different operationally. I guess from an operational standpoint I kind of prefer the Boeing approach, so the 744 gets the nod there. But, the MD-11 looks better (because its newer), runs better on my system (OC'd i7-920), and has a lot of neat little add-ons (like the FS Shortcuts menu off the FMC) that keeps me coming back to flying it. If you're having trouble justifying the expense, well allow me help you rationalize. Many of us (myself included, paid full boat for both planes. If you pay $80 for the MD-11 and only $30 for the 744, then if you average them, you're still ahead of the game on the rest of us.
