September 17, 200322 yr Interesting observations with this slider.... In FS2002, I always kept it at 100 pct. Lowering it didn't improve already decent fps (I make some profound slider adjustments to keep fps fluid), and it had a markedly poorer influence on Terrain/mesh visuals. In FS2004, I find that lowering the mesh slider from 100 to 50 does improve fps to the tune of about 15 pct, and that the visuals hardly look poorer.I have a very low end system, but this tweak along with one other have nearly matched my performance in FS2002--even though airport detail is greater. The one other tweak is panel related--anytime I have a "two tier" panel loaded (such as one with a center post for the compass), if I close the second tier, I gain a fair 15-20 pct in 2-d panel performance. The amazing thing about the "mesh" tweak, is it improves performance in flat land. I expected improvement in the mountains--but looking out of Meigs (sigh) at downtown Chicago, with the 2-d panel, and performance matches FS2002 now.Congested cities still offer a hit on performance, but I'm getting there. FS2004 is my main platform for bush flying....and with the recent xml autogen tweak, my mesh adjustments, and allowances for the panel, I'm getting some very nice Bush flying indeed.... FS2002 is still nice for long haul flights--but it's pretty lame now when it comes to way the element we all fly in appears--the sky. I'm glad I have room for both sims....

No AI? etc. etc....
September 17, 200322 yr See Steve Greenwood's post #5 in this thread:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...ing_type=searchCheers,
September 17, 200322 yr Hi Greg,I think John is stating that when he adjust mesh in FS2k2 he didn't see a FPS change, and that would put his testing into question as that changed many things; Mesh LOD among them. In FS9 this has been split up so as to be handled in a more precise/practical way so moving the slidder in >FS9< does not do all that the slidder did in Fs2k2.Are we on the same page here?
September 17, 200322 yr Hi Paul,"Are we on the same page here?"LOL Probably not... you two know alot more about this matter than I."I think John is stating that when he adjust mesh in FS2k2 he didn't see a FPS change, and that would put his testing into question as that changed many things; Mesh LOD among them."I agree... this doesn't make sense."In FS9 this has been split up so as to be handled in a more precise/practical way so moving the slidder in >FS9< does not do all that the slidder did in Fs2k2."That's the way I understand it also.If I understood Steve's explanation correctly, decreasing the Mesh slider in FS9 decreases the accuracy the mesh is drawn at. This is very different than FS2K2 (which involved adjusting the complexity of the mesh).Back to you,
September 17, 200322 yr Ahhh... Paul--I forgot you've appointed yourself to make sure I don't mislead the masses... I don't know why I'm wasting my time, since my intent was to help those with FS2004, but here goes:You know I keep my lock at 25....I've mentioned it a million times on this forum. You've also taken issue with my keeping my screen res. at 800x600x32... I happen to like it that way--I'd rather have a fluid sim and not be plunking $500 a year in hardware vs. telling my family that daddy's toy is more important than vacation. If I remove my friggin' lock--yes, there's a difference. My FS2002 fps hover between 40-50 at 50 pct mesh, and around 35-40 at 100 pct. Hard to compare to FS2004.... Airport density is greater, so my fps hovers around 31-33 unlocked at 50 pct mesh, and 20-24 at 100 pct.I should have said for the benefit of the "tip integrity police" that lowering mesh didn't influence my "locked" setting of 25fps in FS2002. But it does influence it in FS2004, as I was dipping into the low 20's/high teens around most airports. Moreover, 50 pct mesh doesn't look the same as 50 pct mesh in FS2002, as these shots out of KMFR (runway 14) show. I can't see how anyone could enjoy that setting in FS2002....40 fps isn't worth turning Medford's mountains into molehills... But I enjoy the benefit my tweak gives my sim with its locked fps.But alas maybe I shan't post any tips if the tip police hold me to such high standards.... ;) Voice a FS2004 complaint, someone calls you a whiner. Voice a tip, and someone's there to debunk it. Is there anyone here who simply likes to fly?:-beerchugMinus the beer, that is?-Johnhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/37471.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/37472.jpg
