July 15, 200322 yr Still on my quest for best performance:Antialiasing: Whats the different bettween 2X, 4X, and Quincunx? Whats besT?Whats ansitropic filtering? Whats the best setting? What is the setting in flight simulator called "Filtering" with Bi-linear and tri-linear filtering?
July 15, 200322 yr You might want to get some faster system components if you want to run antialiasing and anisotropic filtering (the "filtering" you were talking about). A PIII 1GHz w/256MB ram and a Geforce FX 5200 (ouch) don't exactly constitute a powerhouse gaming system. Not to rag on you or your computer, just don't expect high frame rates (especially not with AA & AF enabled). If you just bought that card, see about taking it back and getting a Radeon 9500 or better. If you want to run AA & AF you NEED an ATI card. Nvidia cards are horrible at running both AA & AF (Nvidia's AA looks like absolute crap compared to ATI's). Shop around if you can. Radeon 9500's/9600's can be had for well under $200 online nowadays. I found a 9600 Pro Ultra (400 core/400 mem) for $170 on pricewatch the other day.Hope this helps,Max Cowgill
