So found this F406 Caravan on a good sale at their site and along with an even better sale price on their Baron B58 jumped at both. Spent the past few days off and on configuring both including trimming to just two of the 406's liveries, one with RXP GTN750 and RXPv2 GNS530 and the other with (2) RXPv2 GNS530 gauges. Today I took my maiden flight in my GTN variant. LIke it a lot. Even though it forced me to get reacquainted with the Aspen EFD1000 that I sort of left behind in their Bonanza A36. Didn't take long. Perhaps I should revisit the Bonanza! Only ummm moment I had was that the 406 seemed to jump off the runway at rotation. Seemed too light, though Cessna twins are known for that compared to twin Pipers and Beechcrafts. The remainder of the flight was great. Recommend this if you want a GA twin with a lot of seats and considerable range.

For user awareness of what issues exist with this model.

PLEASE also report any bugs to Carenado via email as well. Don't assume that someone else already did (and even if they did, it doesn't hurt to add another voice of concern).

My list so far...

The standby attitude indicator show an approximately 4 degree nose down situation when the plane is in level flight or on the ground. This issue was previously experienced by their Navajo and Alabeo's 404. Unfortunately, the standby indicator is not adjustable, so we'll have to see if Carenado fixes it.

The vertical speed indicator (VSI) seems to show a slight, approximately 30-50 foot decent when on level ground. It's not very noticeable due to the incrementation of the reference lines on the gauge (in hundreds) but one can see that the needle rests slightly below zero on a flat surface.

These two issues have been reported to Carenado. Recieved a generic "form letter" response as follows:

---

Greetings,

Thank you for your valuable feedback. We'll consider it to include as a modification on the future version we will release for the aircraft.

Having been teased into buying this very pretty addon by all the positive forum comments, I am hitting the frustration barrier pretty quickly! Never bought the A36, so I am struggling with the Aspen handling. How do you get the heading and course bugs set? managed it once with both but have been unable to locate the clickspots again. Carenado have taken their minimal documentation approach to new heights here - leaving a rather vital piece out altogether. Also at a loss as to how to get the autopilot to follow, well, anything - it just seems to go off and do its own thing! This is making an instrument departure very exciting...

But it is very pretty and doesnt seem to overtax my poor little i5 760, so its not all bad..

Purchased this great looking plane a couple months ago. I've been really busy so I've only recently started putting it through it's paces.

Despite ensuring everything is up to snuff with there being fuel on board, not at max power, and coming off the condition lever a bit, within ten minutes of takeoff, both engines just quit. I cannot restart them. It usually finishes with a spectacularly fiery crash where both my passengers (a group of old folks headed home to San Diego from Laughlin) and I, being able to exit the flight to reload and try again.

The problem seems to be happening regardless of how I control the airplane, either AP or manual. Hell, I even had my buddy Manuel come over to give it some Latin flair. Always the end result, disappointed old folks.

As you can imagine, with me being the nice guy that I am, I just want to get these folks home safely. After having blown their Social Security checks at the penny slots.

I have checked through the cfg file and have found no obvious signs of issues. Has anyone else had these problems? Anyone come up with a fix?

	Thanks,

.. beware, because the GNS will likely be selected as the "Active navigation device" when loading up the the airplane.

You can mouse over the memory card slot and Tooltips will tell you, or, when powering up the GTN, you will

notice that the HSI does not deflect properly when on the test page.

In that case, pop up the GNS and right click on the right hand memory card slot to toggle the device setting.

Edit: forgot to add that I can fly this aircraft no problem directly though P3D, but with AH2 you click the button and it'll load the aircraft for you, P3D launches and I get to the flight select menu which already has the airport/fuel/aircraft selected so you just need to click "fly now" or whatever it is. Then it attempts to load and then CTDs "Prepar2d has encountered a problem..."

I've also posted this in the AH2 support forum too

Hello Pilots & Carenado Experts!

I own amongst to other aircrafts, the fabulous Carenado F406 Caravan II. It is a very fine aircraft and my favorite plane. Furthermore, I bought the Flight1 GTN 750 and have it successful integrated (F1GTN750F406II.exe) into the F406. Everything is working fine, SimStarter NG, ASN, the F406 including the GTN 750 and all my fantastic sceneries and tools but ...

... the included Weather Radar of the F406 does not work!

I can press every button, turn the controller, especially to the ON Position, but the display remains blank. The device is definitely without function!

There is nothing that I have changed to the plane, except the GTN 750 integration. By the way, I only fly with my Oculus Rift DK2, so I use only the VC and no 2D gauges!

Now to my Questions:

1. Is there really a full weather Radar integrated or is it only compatible and I have to/must buy this WR tool?

2. Is there someone else with this problem?

3. Is there a solution to get the device run?

I use for example the following Addons/Specs:

Windows 10 Pro 64Bit

AMD FX8370

MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GD5T OC (newest driver)

16 GByte RAM

FSX Steam Edition (everything on a 500GB SSD)

Carenado F406 Caravan II

Active Sky Next (via Steam)

Flight1 GTN 750

SimStarterNG

FlyInside (for my Oculus Rift DK2)

..and much more

I dont use DirectX 10, only DirectX9 settings (because the Rift DK2). I have a zipped File with some INI´s and CFG´s but I dont know, how I could upload it inside this thread?

I hope someone can/would help me!

Best wishes from EDHK,

Marco

I'm finding low to moderate speed steering is VERY sensitive in F406 -- relative to all the other Twin Turbo props I use. Roll out to power on take-off and the aircraft will wander across the runway in some cases I'm full rudder just to keep it pointed in the right direction (even with low winds).

I've tried, gradual power, rapid power, different rpm and prop settings, but aircraft will wander around until I hit about 80KTS.

Taxi is extremely difficult.

Any tips?

Cheers, Rob.

EDIT: the inertia also seems off, I'm able to taxi at a good speed with feather and throttle at min ... have to apply brakes always.

I think this topic deserves its own thread..

First of all, the IAS push button selection is broken, it does not set the target speed properly.

Carenado recognizes this and say it will be fixed.

Secondly, the UP/DOWN rocker switch is confused...

If you operate the rocker switch with the mouse wheel, in the popup autopilot,

it works the way I would expect it to operate. Mouse wheel up = nose down.

However, if you just click on the UP and DOWN sections of the switch, it operates

in the opposite mode... UP = nose down, DOWN = nose up.

Likewise, in the VC, it is left click / right click (no mouse wheel  ) and

again UP is nose down, etc..

Do we any RW pilots out there who can chime in on this?

I am not sure that Carenado is convinced that this thing is broken..
