Ive moved on to fsx, however I still have fs9 installed with a vast amounts of add-ons, I'm using fsx for VFR flying, I'm thinking instead of investing tons of cash on fsx add-ins why not try this program to see if I can rekindle my fs9 and payers airliners before investing in fsx.

So just curious, is there a site somewhere to purchase along with the cost of this program?

Thanks

Hi guys and thank you for all your support!

I have released FS9 at the current build of 2.5. (Edit: status in February 2016 is build EVO 2016)

I am accepting contributions under fs9evo@gmail.com via paypal and will post the download link to anyone making a modest or generous contribution.
"Official" relase announcement

FS9 Evolution is a global texture makeover for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 ACOF.

FS9 Evo tries to create a realistic and believable environment in FS9. FS9 Evo textures are built up by hand to look photoreal.

FS9 Evo tries to evolve FS9 by having individual texture files with great detail, carefully balanced within a texture set to avoid tiling. This creates a believable low-altitude experience with enough large terrain features to have an interesting high-altitude experience.

FS9 Evo replaces almost every texture file that defines the visible world outside your plane. This includes cities and towns, fields and rice paddies, forests and jungles, mountains and hills, oceans and lakes, deserts and swamps, airport terminals and suburban houses, clouds and grass, runways and taxiways, in all areas of the FS world!

FS9 Evo also has dense custom autogen for all files that can be annotated.

FS9 Evo also has new and I believe unique 3D lights integrated into the autogen. You will need to download a freeware third-party object library to use them. At the moment, some useres experience a framerate hit. The light density is controlled through the autogen slider so you should find a level were it works for you. A set of reduced lamp models is being worked on by a couple of guys - 3D modelling is beyond me.

FS9 Evo is compatible with Ultimate Terrain and all other land class because basically it is just another texture replacement add-on.

FS9 Evo is optimized for UT land class. Using UT or another good land class add-on will bring best results. Mario Noriega (who has given us so many nice planes)is currently working on an OSM based vector scenery that should work nicely with Evo. Check out Mario's work here: http://forum.avsim.net/forum/719-mario-noriega-designs/

FS9 Evo is also compatible with other texture add-ons although there will probably be color mismatches. If you want to mix FS9 Evo with other texture addons, use the split folder install to select the textures you want.

FS9 Evo is summer, autumn and early winter only at this time with the other seasons to follow asap.

If you want to learn more about FS9 Evo just browse this thread: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/408107-...his-guy-do-it/ here in the FS9 Evolution forum or through the beta thread: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...testers-wanted .

Please note that I use ENB series in most of my screenshots.

FS9 Evo has been publically beta tested by members of the community so should not hold any unwelcome surprises. There are a few crashes with some older scenery, deactivating these is a quick and dirty fix. User Ematheson is trying to find the files called up by the VTP protocol of those sceneries, once it is found the issue should be fixed quickly!

If you do encounter issues, please post them in this forum AND send me an email to fs9evo@gmail.com.

There is no installer because I haven't managed to make one which works. You just need to drop the Evo files into the fs9/texture and fs9/scenery/texture directories. Detailed instructions are included.

Well that is it! I hope you enjoy FS9 Evo! Don't forget to make backups before installing!

Sascha

Hello everyone!

It's been a couple of weeks now since I moved back to FS9, feels really nice to be back especially with the customization in terms of graphics I've performed to my FS9 installation. The fact that I can spend more time flying instead of tweaking .cfg files is also nice!

In my old as well as my new FS9 installation I'm using another product for ground textures, specifically GEPro. I've used it for years and while it's a very nice package and it is compatible with ActiveSky I think that it's really started to show its age. I am, therefore, very interested in Evo. I like what I have seen in screenshots so far and I also like the fact that it's a product that's still in development.

What I would like to know is if there is a release date (even a rough ballpark) for the seasons that have not yet been released. It is my understanding that at this point FS9 Evo is pretty much complete apart from spring and hard winter.

I'm looking forward to becoming a proud user of this amazing product!

Cheers,

Hi,

I've been busy completing the new autogen lights for FS9 EVO. Almost done! The lights are integrated into the textures and thus do not displace autogen. They are also compatible with UT although I keep UT Road lights to the large roads for a better look and more autogen. The screenshots show day vs. night or dusk shots of the same area.

Hi Sascha,

The FS9Evo textures for fall are extremely green for North America. I fly multiple times a week in real life. Even where I live, Florida it isn't nearly as green as in FS9Evo. Is there something I may have missed, I reinstalled with same results. I have been simming since the 80's and am very proficient in tweaking. I changed out the trees in FS9EVO and Autogen Textures. I just cannot get by the fall textures being dark green when they should be much dryer with browns, oranges and tans.

Please let me know if there is something I may have missed.

Thank you,

I've been only able to enjoy the daylight version of FS9 Evo textures. Because of the FPS hit in my laptop, I had to remove the BGL for the library for the autogen lights. But what are exactly these Evo lights? Landing lights? Effects? This is just a curiosity of mine; I'd like to minimize its effect in my FPS. I'm sure there's something missing in my IGP (apart from a dedicated memory) that even an entry-level dedicated GPU has...

I've found a similar impact in some airports, in which I have to remove the lightpoles due to the same reason.

Hi Sascha,

maybe this comes in time to correct it in the update:

I accidentally found out that a landclass that is connected to a land texture shows water in my simulator. This is the thread that showed me that something is wrong:

http://www.avsim.com/topic/494249-runway-bleed-through-at-rivne-ukraine/

As you can see, beside the runway there is a huge lake in my picture. In the picture of the original poster this is a green grass or bush texture. Perhaps you can find out from the scenery the OP has specified there what texture it actually is and if this is a FS9Evo problem.

Many thanks!

Harald

Edit: My own screenshots.

With GE textures:

And this is the file that obviously calls for the suspect texture:

Good day everyone,

Gave EVO a try this last week, and think Sascha did an incredible job. I like what I see, and enjoy the new look very much.

One undesirable effect I noticed is that the shorelines (I can only confirm this on inland shorelines of North America) seem to have extended outward, effectively pulling all of my float base and outpost sceneries up on land - so, half the docks and various other objects that should be in the water are on land, like the water has receded during a drought.

I notice this on all of my installed Roger Wensley sceneries, and my own outposts created with EZ Scenery.

Sascha had been very supportive, and suggested that I try replacing a few coastline files, as well as a couple of other UT* files, but we can't seem to pinpoint what file(s) it is in his EVO pack that would cause this.

I can restore back to my pre-saved texture folders, and all is back to normal.

I write here wondering if anyone else has noticed this, and if so, have you been able to correct it? If so, may I ask how?

Thanks very much to Sascha, and to anyone who replies.

Dear all,

I will announce updates to the FS9 Evo release here. In fact I have just uploaded an update: I stupidly forgot to include the modified default and UT roads in the 2.0 release.

Everyone who had version 1.0 will not really need this as there is only one changed texture which I slightly improved.

Best wishes,

Sascha

Hello everyone!

After testing FS9 Evo extensively for the past week I thought it's time for a mini review. First of all, I'd like to thank Sascha for being extremely helpful and for offering his excellent work as a donationware. Before Evo I had been using GEPro, a very good product when it first came out eight years ago. For the past year I had been searching for a replacement for it as I thought it had started showing its age. Here comes FS9 Evo. At first I was sceptical (and, to be honest, a tad disappointed with the thought that there's not much potential left in the FS9 engine), many have promised the "ultimate FS addon" over the years only to disappoint us simmers. Me being me, however, always hopeful I thought I'd try it out, I always keep a backup of my FS installation anyway. Let's see how that turned out...

It seems the sightseeing will have to wait for another time as we are flying VFR! At least we are very close to the airport, let's join the circuit!

In conclusion, thank you Sascha for bringing this whole new world to FS2004! VFR flying is now much more realistic and flying jets you can finally recognize the places you are flying over! If you are still thinking whether FS9 Evo's worth it or not let me tell you this; no matter what you donate it's worth ten times more!

HSP Base scenery + HSP Mesh

REX2004 for the sky, the sun, most water textures and the clouds

and of course the IVAO network

Hi Sascha, you sent me the link for EVO about 12 months ago. Have only just got around to installing FS9, alongside FSX & P3D

Spent 20 mins placing all your textures over the top....I'm amazed at the transformation. Only using it for Plane Spotting, rather than flying. Put an old AI Traffic program in.

Took a while to "tune" it into giving good visuals. Knocking up 100+ FPS with very high settings...it's gorgeous !! Full sky and Tarmac makes for fascinating viewing. Could never do that in FSX or P3D without many bad side effects.

So a big thank you, from one happy bunny.

I recently stumbled across this package when searching how to uninstall another texture add-on which I did not like.

I only fly commercial flights, so spend most of my time at airports or at 36,000 feet. I am however always looking for ground textures that look better and more realistic for when I go to spot view or come in to land etc. Obtaining the download files from Sascha was very efficient and the installation very easy. The first impression was wow, what a difference, and a positive one at that!!

I did 2 flights, one from Istanbul to Athens (daytime), the other from Athens to Bucharest (nighttime). First thing I noticed with the daytime flight was that the scenery far away in the distance, which is always blurry (this is something I believe most simulators have) was more prominent than before. This may be due to the more in depth colour and detail of the textures, hence it is more noticeable. I did however manage to tweak my FS9.cfg file to cope with this better, plus I rarely have flights with totally clear skies to view the ground below at a distance. I also changed a couple of things, such as the water textures (I have an excellent Payware package which allows me to choose the colour and wave pattern) and I also have excellent tree and grass texture packages.

The nighttime flight was also a huge improvement. I previously had a payware nighttime package and 3D lights package, but these never looked right and so I always tried to avoid night flights. Now however the look is so realistic I cannot wait to fly at night again. Yet again I did make a small change though, as personally I do not like blurry lights, so I changed the halo.bmp file back to what I had previously, which now gives me a much sharper and precise light affect.

Overall there is only one small thing I do not like, but this may just be a personal thing, and that is the green wiggly lines which I assume represent streams/rivers? I just wish these were not so obvious.

On the whole this is a fantastic package and one that anyone using FS9 would be a fool not to get. Sascha deserves a lot of praise and thanks for the hard work and effort that has gone into this, and unlike many developers nowadays, it is reassuring that there are a small few who still remember that there are many of us still using FS9!!
