	Hi everyone, I’m just getting started with flight simulators (mainly MSFS and DCS) and could really use some guidance. I’m looking for recommendations on good books that explain the fundamentals - things like how aircraft actually fly, how to properly manage systems, and the basics of navigation and procedures. I’ve heard classics like "Stick and Rudder" mentioned, but I’m not sure if that’s the best starting point or if there are more modern alternatives.
</p>

<p style="background-color:#ffffff;color:#404040;font-size:16.002px;">
	Also, I’d appreciate any advice on where to find reliable learning materials beyond books - maybe good YouTube channels, structured courses, or forums that are particularly helpful for beginners. For DCS specifically, I know about Chuck’s Guides, but I’m curious if there are other resources that explain military systems and procedures in a beginner-friendly way.
</p>

<p style="background-color:#ffffff;color:#404040;font-size:16.002px;">
	Basically, if you were starting over today, what books and resources would you prioritize? Thanks in advance for any tips you can share!

	Hi all, I just wanted to share some news that Fernando Correa,  who is the creative talent behind FC Scenery has had some bad news regarding his ongoing health issues. Unfortunately he is desperately short of the funds needed for his life-saving medication. He tells his story in the following link - <a href="https://www.fcscenerys.com/aboutme-medical-aid-from-peru" rel="external nofollow">https://www.fcscenerys.com/aboutme-medical-aid-from-peru</a>

	If you are considering investing in some FC Scenery products or can help out Fernando , now would be a good time to do it.

	Hey guys! I am an engineer and have worked almost 5 years for Boeing Aircraft Manufacturers. This job made me a flight enthusiast and thus I started my journey with FS2004 back in 2013... But due to workload and other issues, I didn't get any time to be with my simulator. Thus now it's little good, have some free time now in weekends, so I have returned back to FS9! I had a lot of payware and freeware addons, all messed up but most of them strored safely in my old PC! I may need some help setting them up again... That's why I joined this community... I hope that I get that help if needed...
</p>

<p>
	Thank you!

	It has been a while since my development days, some may remember me, was good times.

<p>
	So now, a new sim is out, and I am loving it. without going into details, still a few things missing. Back in FSX I made an Autopilot for Helicopters, but i did not pass it out.
</p>

<p>
	Now i want to use it again in msfs2020, but not sure i have it in me to re learn all the new stuff. And perhaps introduce it into the sim community in a helicopter build. If you're a developer for msfs2020 and are building a Helicopter, I would like to see this AP implemented into a build.

<p>
	The AP follows VOR with VOR radial tracking, and GPS Lnav. Hoover Grab/Autoland and Auto Takeoff.

<p>
	Hi Folks, <br />
	This is going to be a bit long, please be patient with me if you can.  To preface this, I have used Microsoft Flight Simulator 9 (?) and P3D ver. 4 for a number of years, and I think I am going to move to FSX as my one and only.  I have an older HP computer running Windows 7, and an array of Saitek accessories; 6 FIPs, two radios, multi-panel, switch panel, yoke and throttle, and pedals. I want to start from scratch as much as possible with a new computer, but I’d like to use the Saitek accessories if possible.
</p>

<p>
	What I’d like to get from the group are suggestions for the best computer for FSX, and if I can use the Saitek accessories.
</p>

<p>
	I will also use the computer for Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and scanning.
</p>

<p>
	Thanks

<p>
	After an absence of 15 years or so, MSFS 2020 caught my interest so I decided to give it a try. My old and dusty CH Products yoke, pedals, and throttle quadrant were no longer up to the task so I got the Logitech G setup; yoke and throttle, radio, multi, and switch panels. They worked out of the box with MSFS 2020, but it took a little research and effort to get them working with FSX, I'm even giving the X-Plane demo a try and got them working there as well.
</p>

<p>
	A long time ago (from the mid-90's on), I was pretty involved in the FS community, I wrote some addons that were distributed by a company called Abacus: CoPilot Pro, EZ-GPS, and Airport and Scenery Designer. I did some work with a great simmer named Konstatin Kukushkin, Does anybody know if he's still around?
</p>

<p>
	In any event, I'm retired now and having quite a bit of fun learning MSFS 2020 and revisiting FSX.

<p>
	Hi to all from Italy, looking forward to becoming part of the comunity.
</p>

<p>
	Used to dabble a bit with FS a long time ago but work commitments ment time for it was at a premium and never really gave it 100%.
</p>

<p>
	I have since moved back to Italy from the UK and retired from working as a veterinarian (ok, our dozens of rescues still keep me on my toes).
</p>

<p>
	Luckily managed to buy a decent pc (Ryzen 5900, Radeon 6900) without having to pay too much of a premium over MSRP that could run FS so decided to "do things properly" this time and got some reasonably good (I hope) controls: Honeycomb yoke, Thrustmaster TPRs and a Logitech throttle quadrant, now in the process of setting everyting up.
</p>

<p>
	Ciao

	Hi. My name is Gary. I am returning to the hobby after a 15 year absence. My last FS version before fsx steam was 2004 on Windows XP. I bought a new system at the end of June and now am using fsx steam and Flight Gear. After I add another 8 gig of ram I will treat myself to Xplane 11 for my birthday in November. I already have a number of add-ons. UT North America, Active Sky, F33 Bonanza, P210 turbo, TBM 850, B200 King Air, and several great Cessna piston twins. Just got Golden Eagle. Best of all. I plan on installing rxp GTN on the Golden Eagle. It will be my Go To cross country piston twin. I live in PA USA. Default field is Penn Valley KSEG about 15 air miles north along the beautiful Susquehanna.

They have no idea what Flight Simming is.  I myself am from the USA, state of Louisiana.  What about you?

	I cant help but notice that  there is a distinct lack of input from the more elderly, experienced simmers in recent times, which saddens me. the majority of the forums have now mostly content from the younger generations , is it because of the flaming that goes on here just because someone may not agree with your point of view? at any rate I am considering creating a site/place where the more experienced /mature simmers can discuss the pleasure of their hobby without fear of flaming or contradiction. Are there any other grey beards out there interested in this idea?

<p>
	Hello everyone; I hope everyone is keeping safe and flying safe during this troubled time.
</p>

<p>
	Quick introduction, though I am hoping that anyone from that old crowd hanging around would remember me fondly.
</p>

<p>
	I was quick active back in 2004, and had several utilities from flight simulator; the most popular one was called “FlightSim Manager”: in fact it had won gold award from FlightSim.com; basically it was an Install Wizard, VA Fleet manager, Optimizer, AI Traffic editor, LAN viewer and a lot more.
</p>

<p>
	I also had another software called “FSM Moving Map” that would allow you to have google map running within Simulator, or as an external software or even over the network to show your aircraft’s current position.
</p>

<p>
	Written in Visual Studio 6 for WindowsXP, and with Microsoft dropping support for both, neither can function without a lot of hacking and messing around.
</p>

<p>
	I would like to bring it back to life, with support for modern OS (windows, OSX, and some variants of Linux), and for multiple Flight Simulator like Microsoft FlightSimulator, X-Plane, DCS and so on.
</p>

<p>
	If you want to know more about FSM, I have a short introductory video (2m30s) on YouTube. There are also some videos with more details and planned roadmap.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<br />
	Thank you; if you want to know more, please ask away.
</p>

<p>
	Best regards<br />
	Rana

<p>
	What music do you like to fly by, in both simming and real life?  Me, I enjoy a mix of music, sometimes contemporary Christian, sometimes 80's rock with a touch of disco, and often smooth jazz.  Many smooth jazz artists, like Peter White and Craig Chaquico, were with rock bands in the 70's and 80's.  Peter was with Al Stewart and Craig with Jefferson Starship, which sadly lost their male singers Paul Kantner and Marty Balin.  Music has always been part of my simming and real life flying enjoyment, I would create mixes depending on what I wanted to listen to and the length of my flights, so I would not have to repeat music, for instance on my last two non stop flights from Phoenix to London and back on British Airways in 2017.  One mix I made in '92 my daughter loved so much, I had to send the long mp3 to her at her University in Flagstaff, because I always played it in my car when we drove to Disney California or I played it for her using my dual headphone jack when we would fly to Disney Orlando.  I also enjoy listening to Phil Collins' live But Seriously concert, which I saw live at Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View California in 1990, not far from SFO airport.
</p>

<p>
	I feel music and flying go hand in hand.  Doug Brambrink, a young high school friend who learned how to fly and got his pilot's license at age 16, before he learned how to fly, took me and a close friend on a moonlight flight in 1979 from Napa down to San Francisco over the piers, then back home to Napa.  He tuned the aircraft's radio so it could pick up a radio station and I recall listening to the popular song from the band "Raydio" -- "You can't change that"....  I love that song because Doug's flight was my first flight in a general aviation aircraft, followed by a flight in a Piper Cherokee six place aircraft out of Mystic CT in 1980.  Many pilots listen to music when they are not listening to ATC, ATC cuts in via their sound system, which is kind of cool.
</p>

<p>
	So, what does everyone else enjoy?  Only music that does not sway me on flights is RAP although singing with some RAP, like Blondie's Man from Mars song, is alright.... LOL
</p>

<p>
	John

	A package will be made available for FSX/P3D users and another package for X-Plane users.
</div>

<div>
	the package will include flight plans in both text and Little Navmap format, scenery and effects to provide short range NDB's at the historical waypoints , a marker ship mid way across the north sea and smoke markers on the DZ's.

	In addition effects etc. will be provided that adds flak effects in historically accurate locations and in the correct density.<br />
	Effects will also be provided to add a paratroop function to your preferred aircraft.

<p>
	<span style="font-size:8px;">(I didn't know exactly, which forum section to put this... so I hope this is okay)</span>
</p>

<p>
	Greetings, all!<br /><span style="font-size:10px;">(not least of which you, @Flyer024)</span>
</p>

<p>
	<br />
	I'm writing this message to everyone in here. Most of all, the people who (unfortunately) were 'targets' from my recent outburst a couple of days ago. I won't name any names. The poor folk - you know who you are.
</p>

<p>
	However, in order for me to offer some sort of explanation I need to go back a couple of weeks. I have had - and to some extend still have - quite a difficult time in my personal life - both with regards to family- and relationship.<br />
	Things are a bit intense at home, since unemployment and a stale job situation which has turned into a rather desperate situation. I had just recovered from having surgery in my throat, due to complications from a congenital defect. My situation is currently, that I have further surgery to look forward to. I have another in about 4 weeks and most likely again later this year.<br />
	I have had to take time off work, in order to get through this, which has increased the pressure on myself the larger. I'm struggling to get through this, and luckily my family has been tremendous support in that regard. It's extremely hard and fatiguing.
</p>

<p>
	So my deep and sincerer apologies to all. I never meant in any way to ridicule or otherwise condescend anyone. If any post I've written has been taken that way. I guess, that some of my frustration and fear has spilled into some of these posts. I apologize for it.
</p>

<p>
	I'm sorry for all the debacle. It wasn't fair and it wasn't right and I apologize for it. That doesn't make it okay - but unfortunately I can't go back in time...
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	That was all - thank you for your time.
</p>

<p>
	A  question I really would like to have an answer to.<br /><br />
	On the DutchFS forum in The Netherlands we have a dicussion about the age of the average flightsimmer.<br />
	Why?
</p>

<p>
	We wonder, why there is less youth visiting sim-events in The Netherlands , year by year.<br /><br />
	I estimate 75% of the sim-community to be 55+ years old in The Netherlands.<br /><br />
	I wonder how is the situation here , on this more international forum.
</p>
